Andy the angle poise lamp was part of a competition i did towards the end of my third year as part of a competition set by anglepoise. The only pre requisite was that we used a certain type of anglepoise lamp. This competition was set to all student to create a story around the lamp as long as it did  not move. so here is the finished piece i sent in.

The story of Andy is that he is all alone stuck in the room and uses the bookcase to escape into a day dream each one encompassing a different subject mythology, science fiction, history, science and technology ( not in that particular order) before coming back to reality.

I should also add it came with a statement by anglepoise to make this official:

This is the paragraph agreed to be put with your images of the project on your blogs and websites.
Living Lamp was a professional brief set by British lighting maker Anglepoise® for final year BA Illustration students at the University of Portsmouth. Over 40 students were tasked with bringing an Anglepoise® lamp to life by exploring the narratives around their anthropomorphic qualities through a single concertina sketch book. Each concept was kept under wraps until the end of the campaign, when all the sketchbooks were presented simultaneously. 9 winners were selected by Anglepoise® Brand
